Perfect fusions of Tobacco, Rum, Spice, Amber, Wood & Musk from around the world. Pheremone aromas that are timelessly attractive and uncommon to generic store bought colognes & aftershaves.

Pugilist Brand Beard Trimming Scissors. Now available for sale online September 25, 2015 19:15

Pugilist Brand Beard Trimming Scissors are specially designed to meet the contours and curvature of a bearded gentleman's face.

Our stainless steel Beard trimming Scissors are curved like a scimitar sword, to produce exact cutting high tensile strength pressure, rather than flattening and compressing facial hairs before trimming, to accommodate specific cutting tasks with sharp surgical precision.

Pugilist Brand Beard Trimming Scissors create a very smooth action and a clean cut.  They grip beard hairs without pushing hairs down the closing aperture of the scissors, allowing for very precise trimming.

Made of Stainless Steel,  measuring 5 1/2 " our beard trimming scissors are slightly larger than mustache scissors, but will also serve that purpose well, for the reasons outlined above.

An ideal solution for  dispatching flyaway hairs & split ends, in addition to shaping your beard between appointments to a reputable beard barber.

Illustration of a  medieval scimitar sword, used mainly in the middle east and adopted by some European countries, these type of swords with a curved blade meant it had a  had a pressure point for more precise slashing as opposed to stabbing or thrusting. A similar action is at work in our Beard & Mustache trimming scissors for precision.

The Pugilist Brand Beard trimming scissor is available for sale online here http://www.pugilistbrand.com/products/beard-trimming-scissors

NEW Pugilist Brand Budget Beard Oil September 2, 2015 13:11

Introducing Pugilist Brand Budget Beard Oil, a lower cost Beard Care alternative to our Original & Exotic Beard Oils. A blend of 5 different  natural carrier oils in a lighter weight oil for fast absorption to Facial Hair & Skin, in addition to 100% Essential Oils, in a simple masculine fragrance.

You spoke and we listened. We understand that not everyone's pocket book extends to oils costing  many dollars more, especially in today's financially challenging times. There's now no reason Beardsmen shouldn't have the best possible facial hair for their specific budget.

You can vary between Original Beard Oils, Exotic Beard scents or Budget line product ranges and scents to help save a few dollars.  Use Budget Beard Oil during the week, or at work, switching to Original or Exotic Beard Oil for nights out and weekends?  Perhaps things are just a bit tight this month or you're between paychecks.............

Whatever your circumstances, expand your beard oil product selection and price range choices so no Beardsman is faced with the dilemma of having to go without Beard Oil treatment .

A less expensive basic Beard Care Product solution, we still pack every bottle with a variety of high quality carrier oils to take care of your masculine mane, in addition to 100% aromatherapy cold pressed Essential Oils. There's simply less labor involved as we use basic manly scents, infusing 1 or 2 select Essential Oils in our Budget Beard Oil range.

What that means is a great beard maintenance and facial hair care, without breaking the bank.

Both Oils are available for purchase on our main website page here http://www.pugilistbrand.com/collections/beard-oil

Big Bear Pine is a mixture of Pine & Eucalyptus scents, a homage to the city of Big Bear, where majestic Pine trees cover the landscape and surround the popular lake of the same name.

Located in the San Bernadino mountains and National Forest in California, Big Bear Mountain & Lake is a summer & winter destination for outdoorsmen, skiers, hikers, campers, boaters and serves as a training camp for world famous pugilists looking for training camp retreat at higher mountain elevation, prior to World Title Las Vegas fights.

Cafe Americano is lightly scented with 100% cold pressed, natural Essential Oil from the coffee bean itself.  Coffee strengthens facial hair at the root. Aromatherapy benefits are that coffee stimulates the mind and aids mental focus.

Moto 360 Smart Watch review August 23, 2015 14:31

Pugilist Brand Gentleman's Grooming products owner Tom finally delved into the Smart Watch market, and bought a Moto 360 a couple of weeks ago. The Moto 360 has been around for about 10 months, as of this August 2015 article. A $149 price tag, combined with a $50 credit I already had on my cell phone carrier account, made this watch hard for me to resist for less than $100.

Set up was pretty easy after downloading  the Android Wear & Motorola Connect aps to my phone, or should have been.......The first two synchs I attempted did not pick up all notifications such as e-mail and instant messaging. I found I had to download Google Hangouts and make that my default chat application.

After resetting to factory defaults, twice, the third time worked a charm, as they say. The Moto 360 now notified me of all e-mails, tweets, Facebook messages, Instagram likes and posts, as well as telling me the time and informing me of the local weather.

I'm in California and spend some time at the beach or swimming pools. Be advised the Moto 360 isn't completely waterproof, but it did receive an IP67 water and dust resistance rating. It may be worn in the shower, rain and when you sweat, and can apparently survive one meter depth for about 30 minutes. I have not worn mine swimming, so can't vouch for that. You'll also need to change from the leather strap to metal or silicone. The first thing I did was change out my Horween black leather standard strap for a black metal mesh one, and add a plastic face protector film to prevent scratches.

Downloadable Pilot Watch face

One of the most addictive things beside playing with the various aps, from GPS to fart makers, is downloading different faces from aps such as Facer and Watchmaker. There's literally thousands of watch faces, from copies of luxury brands ( which are obviously illegal and pirated) to plain basic faces. Be aware the more elaborate the watch face, the bigger the battery drain.

The Moto 360 uses a 'flat tire' watch face design, in other words, the watch face display is not completely round, the bottom of the display is cut off like a flat tire, to incorporate various sensors. This means many watch faces are cut off at the bottom, which spoil the aesthetics, a little....

Steampunk Watch face from Facer

This brings me to my next point, battery drain!! This is one of the main issues with the Moto 360,  and I'm not alone, based on lots of other similar complaints on-line. Battery life goes anywhere from a ridiculous 5 hours, to 14 hours maximum. To achieve 14 hours you have to turn off all the watches bells and whistles, such as wrist gestures, ambient light adjustment, not use more complicated watch faces, reduce notifications and generally limit watch use. Which is the reason I and most people buy a Smart Watch to begin with?!?!

Charging is from a nifty cradle charger that you simply drop your watch into, the problem is it's the only way to charge your watch, so you'll either need to buy a second or even third charger for work and other locations, or carry your charger with you if you  plan to use your watch for more than 10 - 14 hours.

The Moto 360 functions as a bedside clock when charging in it's cradle

Overall I like the Moto 360, especially given the price point of as low as $149, a new Moto 360 is already planned for release, so the price could go down even more. I believe the Smart Watch sector can only continue to grow, however I think some of the early models such as this one are not completely ready for prime time, especially given the battery life and somewhat limited aps and functionality, such as no speaker on this particular watch. It's great for the telling the time, as a watch should be, and saves you pulling your phone out every few minutes to look at notifications. That's about it, you'll still need to use your phone to read complete e-mails and reply.

I do love playing with those watch faces though.

Here's my pros and cons for the Moto 360.

Pros:  Low cost,  Changeable watch straps, Add-on aps, Round face design, Various available watch faces (although many are unauthorized), Easy cradle charger.

Cons: Pixelated display, Low battery life, 3 times to synch notifications, Flat tire design, New Moto 360 is coming soon. hold on to your money?), No built-in speaker.

Beards & Hats July 13, 2015 16:18

Goorin Brothers, hat makers since 1895, recently opened a store in our Santa Monica, California neighborhood and Pugilist Brand Gentlemen's Grooming Products owner Tom stopped by to try on some hats to add to his existing collection and find what hat best suits the bearded gentleman. Now Tom doesn't profess to be a model, so some tongue in cheek poses were called for to offset the often used cliche of bearded hipsters and hats.

These were some of my favorites in addition to other non-Goorin Brothers headwear already in my collection. There's something about the right hat that sets of a grand beard or magnificent handlebar mustache, in addition to keeping you cool in the summer and warm or dry in the winter.

Don't forget to keep that facial hair clean and conditioned with a full range of beard care, mustache wax, facial hair washes and soaps at our online store at www.pugilistbrand.com. Champion of Gentlemen's Grooming. Made by Beardsmen for Beardsmen.

Goorin Brothers 'The Doctor' wool wide brim fedora hat in Stone color.

I own one of these hats and love it. It's warm, stylish and also available in black. A  nice warm winter hat.

The Fedora is making somewhat of a renaissance after being hugely popular in the early part of the 20th Century.

Goorin Brothers 'Pierre Renoir' real straw boater hat. Named after the French impressionist painter.

A nice lightweight straw hat, perfect for summer and a little bit different in style. In the 19th century the boater was worn to mark the start of summer, when heavier winter hats would be packed away. Now mostly seen in barbershop quartets, we think it deserves a comeback. Boaters were allegedly worn by G-men (FBI agents) as an unofficial uniform in the 1930's.

The bowler hat was designed in the UK in the mid 19th Century, when a  low-crowned hat to protect  gamekeepers heads from low-hanging branches and swooping birds while keeper's rode on horseback. The gamekeepers had previously worn tall top hats, which were easily knocked off. The Bowler hat was conceived to solve the problem.

This is a Goorin Brothers 'Bowler' also known as a Derby in the US. This is another warm hat as

it's 100% felt wool. Personally, I didn't like this bowler as I've have seen better bowlers with upturned brims at the side.

Didn't feel like a true bowler hat.

Goorin Bros Ruben Gonzalez, hand woven Panama hat made in Ecuador of 100% Toquilla straw.

As early as the 15th century hat weaving became a popular business along the Ecuadorian coast. Hat weaving and wearing grew steadily in Ecuador over the next two hundred years. These hand woven straw hats were shipped first to Panama, before sailing for their destinations across the globe, thus acquiring the name "Panama hats" rather than the more accurate Ecuadorean hats.

Goorin Brothers 'Jack Johnson' Panama hat, made from 100% shantung, a type of paper and substitute to authentic panama straw.  Very lightweight and comfortable. I own this hat, which is perfect for summer.

Not a hat but a motorcycle helmet I use when riding my custom bobber motorcycle. Prior to 1992 helmets were optional in the state of California where Pugilist Brand is based.

The stereotypical Russian 'Ushanka' hat. Ushanka is Russian for 'ears' i.e the flaps of the hat that can be lowered and extended over the ears in extremely cold climates. Sean Connery became famous for his portrayal of a ushanka wearing Russian submarine commander in the movie 'The Hunt for Red October'. I'm certainly no Sean Connery. A very warm hat that I wear maybe twice a year in California. The ushanka is great for skiing in the mountains of California, as it also affords some protection in addition to warmth.

The Ottoman Empire and Turkey made the 'Fez' the best known hat of Arabic origin. Worn in various guises from military costume to traditional Turkish dress. It's better known for it's comedic value in the west, from Laurel & Hardy's Sons of the Desert appreciation society to 1970's British comedian Tommy Cooper.

Goorin Brothers 'Good Boy' 100% wool hat with shorter 1 7/8 " brim.

My Brixton wool western style hat. A lot of brim for plenty of shaded protection.

Goorin Brothers 'Pleasure Point' hat. This is an everyday wear hat as it's on the less expensive side, a blend of  72% cotton & 28% cotton make this a medium weight and weather hat. Not as lightweight as the straw boaters and panama hats, however not as substantial and heavy as a 100% wool felt Fedora.

The Essential Oil Guide to Pugilist Brand Beard Care Products June 4, 2015 12:46

Last year we wrote an article called 'The Definitive Guide to Beard Oils' a general outline of why we chose the carrier oils, glass bottles, droppers, heat shrunk hygienic sealed bands and essential oils in our products.

The previous article can be found on our website here;

 http://www.pugilistbrand.com/blogs/news/14834589-the-definitive-guide-to-beard-oil-pugilist-brand-beard-oil-you-decide

We wanted to expound on that article and make it even more informative & specific to Pugilist Brand Gentlemen's Grooming Products Beard Care & Grooming product selection.

There have been a lot of beard oil companies entering the market in the last year, many using Fragrance Oils rather than Essential Oils. While we can see the attraction of fragrance oils it should be noted they offer no benefits to the user, beyond a long lasting scent that offers a variety of completely synthetic scents that smell like chocolate, whisky, cheesecake, ice cream, breakfast and myriad other flavors.

The Essential Oils we use in our products use a natural steam distillation extraction method from the herbs, plants, trees and flowers rather than being produced synthetically in a laboratory. Essential oils such as Rosewood are ethically sourced.

Historically most Essential Oils have been used medicinally and in aromatherapy for hundreds if not thousands of years, in such cultures as Ancient Egypt,  Ancient Rome, Iran, China & Europe

We offer 9 Beard Oils, each one has a narrative story and is specifically tailored towards a specific bearded lifestyle, story or fantasy. Additionally aimed towards a lifestyle, health benefit or goal such as invigoration, the outdoors, relaxation, social  events  as well as hair care,  growth and skin care. Many of our beard conditioning oils crossover and have multiple uses.

We hope you'll find this information helpful with all your hirsute activities.

Bearded Wyndham Wizard TV adverts May 13, 2015 13:03

In case you haven't noticed, beards are now more and more popular in mainstream television ads. The guy selling the truck, driving the truck, working in the office, hanging out with his family has become bearded.

Here's a new series of TV ads featuring a bearded character. This one is for the Wyndham hotels chain and stars a ginger bearded whimsical wizard.

A few bearded adverts here for your entertainment

We've noticed Amish beards, Lumberjack beards, Wizard beards as well as regular old guy beards doing guy things. We'll post them in our blog when we find them. Let us know your feelings on all these beards in TV ads. Does it mean acceptance?

Lumberjack beard TV advertisement May 5, 2015 13:00

With the increased popularity of everything beard, beard care, beard products, beard models we spotted this rather cool advert today. This one is from Miller Coors to promote their masculine Smith & Forge hard cider product line.

Click on the link to see the lumberjack ad. We can't speak for the beverage as we haven't tried it

http://www.bizjournals.com/chicago/news/2014/03/03/cavalry-agency-goes-macho-in-ads-for-hard-cider.html?ana=twt

We don't have a lumberjack beard care product. We do have Frontiersman, a woodsy, coffee, floral and smoky mixture that would work well on many masculine beards.

Beard Care products and Beard hygiene May 2, 2015 18:26

I'm sure we've all seen this article about how beards are dirty. The question really is how much of this is just propaganda by big companies who lose money on razors.

http://nymag.com/thecut/2015/05/beards-are-actually-vile-germ-y-cesspools.html

Pugilist Brand Gentlemen's Grooming Products suggests you fight back with a dialy regime of Organic Beard Soap combined with a good Beard Wash such as Pugilist Brand Gentlemen's Beard Wash. Use of our Beard Oil is also highly recommended.

Until next time......Keep fighting!

Pugilist Brand Gentlemen's Grooming Products review by The Beard Academy April 13, 2015 15:46

The fine Gentlemen at The Beard Academy reviewed our 9 Beard Oils. Here is the review in full and a link to their original article on Facebook.  Thank you Gents!!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/697251603702272/permalink/858293557598075/

Los Angeles, CA. Home of the Dodgers, the Lakers, and Pugilist Brand mens grooming products. Tom Davidson is the man behind the brand, and he sure has something special. Pugilist offers everything the bearded man could ask for. Beard oils and balms, moustache wax, beard wash, soaps, beard and moustache combs, lip poultice, and even pre shave and shaving accessories. To say the bases are covered is a huge understatement. The quality of the products Pugilist offers is extraordinary. I was fortunate enough to receive a very large sampling of the Pugilist line up. I will be covering all 9 (yes, that's right, Pugilist has NINE different beard oil scents) beard oils in this review. I was also given 2 beard balms, 4 soaps, a beard wash, and a moustache wax. I will be covering those in a 2 different future reviews, so make sure you keep an eye out for them in the very near future.

Because this review will be covering 9 different oils, I'll be switching it up a little bit. I won't be doing 10 categories with the point scores. It just isn't practical for a 9 oil review. So because all of the oils use the same carrier base and use different essential oil blends, we'll go over the scent profile and essential oil make up of each oil, then go over the carrier oil make up, then go over the rest of the review. So here we go!!!

Zen Musk - Lavender, Frankincense, and Patchouli. Lavender - promotes hair growth according to some studies, treats oily skin. Also used in Alopecia study on hair loss with some positive results. A natural relaxant in aromatherapy. Frankincense – Has anti-inflammatory properties for the skin, increases the potency of the other EOs it is paired with. Patchouli - an alleged aphrodisiac, prevents hair loss. Helpful in eczema, psoriasis and beardruff. Balances hair oil

Citrus Grove - Lemon, Grapefruit, and Lime. Lemon - for oily skin, astringent, mood uplifter. Grapefruit & Lime - cleanses and removes oil from the hair. Citrus Essential oils are all mood lifters and help focus. Think of smelling a freshly squeezed lemon or lime, they invogorate, whereas lavender relaxes!

Shaman - Rosemary, Clary Sage, Clove, and Eucalyptus. Rosemary - promotes hair growth, treats oily skin and hair. Used in Alopecia study with some success. Clary Sage - also seems to promote hair growth. Clove - increases circulation and may stimulate hair growth at the root, one of nature's most potent antioxidants. Eucalyptus - a natural lice treatment and increases blood circulation at the root.

Cedar Atlas Shrugged - Tea Tree and Cedarwood. Tea Tree - for eczema and overall skin treatment. Cedarwood - relieves beard dandruff, treats acne and oily skin. Stimulates hair at the root.

Frontiersman - Birch Tar, Jasmine, Vetiver, Rosewood, and Coffee. Birch Tar - smoky smell a natural mosquito repellent. Jasmine - strengthens hair at the root and is a mood lifter. Vetiver - a grounding relaxing earthy smell, eases stress and calms nerves. Rosewood - balances hair ph between dry & oil. Coffee - stimulates the mind and adds focus, strengthens hair roots.

Mojito - Peppermint and Lime. Peppermint - promotes blood circulation at the root, Excellent skin toner and astringent. Lime - cleanses the hair, excellent astringent, also a mood uplifter as mentioned previously.

Absinthe - Aniseed, Fennel, Hyssop, Coriander, and Angelica Root. Aniseed - good for oily skin. Fennel repairs skin tissue and stimulate the skin. Hyssop - helps with anxiety ( do not use if epileptic), Coriander - helps prevent hair loss. Angelica Root - an excellent skin healer ( used in tiny quantities)

Vanilla & Sandalwood - Vanilla - mostly used for it's aphrodesiac fresh floral aroma, no apparent hair or skin benefits but a most beloved aroma scent. Amyris - sooths and softens dry irritated skin, also known as West Indian Sandalwood as the aroma is similar to Sandalwood.

Whew! Are ya still with me? That's a damn impressive line up. So now let's talk carrier oils. Almond oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, castor oil, and vitamin e round out the carrier blend.
Almond Oil: Has the ability to nourish and soften hair, while moisturizing, which reduces the risk of "dandruff". Conditions your beard makes your beard less wiry and much more manageable
Jojoba Oil: Penetrates, hydrates and strengthens hair follicles from the inside, reducing the swelling and shrinking of hair as it it gets wet and dries, which can weaken the hair fibre over time. Conditions, adds shine, elasticity and softness to hair. Adds volume and body to hair strands.
Argan Oil: Traditionally Argan oil is reputed to have aphrodisiac and tonic properties. Contains high levels of natural vitamin E (anti-oxidants) to help neutralize sun damage, important for hair exposed to polluted, dry, urban environments and contains skin-softening agents.
Castor Oil: Castor Oil is widely used in medicines and cosmetics for decades. Filled with essential nutrients, helps stop split ends and breakage. Deeply penetrating, to help it to deliver its nourishment deeply into the pores and the follicles that produce hair. High sheen properties, to lend a lush shine to the hair. The oil also has omega-6 essential fatty acids, responsible for healthy hair
Vitamin E: T50 Tocophorol all natural, tastless, odorless Grade vitamin E works both as a skin moisturizer to treat the skin beneath beards for eczema and psoriasis, itching or beard dandruff and as an antioxidant.
(The list of carrier oils and their benefits was taken directly from the Pugilist Brand website)

My first impression of the products I was given WOW!!! The packaging is top notch, the branding (logos, fonts, overall look and feel) was some of the best I've seen. I love the look of everything, and I couldn't help but think if so much attention was paid to the details for the packaging and the visual end of things, I can't wait to use this stuff. I went down the line of all nine oils in about 30 minutes, taking a break between each scent to let my nose clear out. My early favorites for scent were the Zen Musk, Mojito, and Vanilla & Sandalwood.

Application was a breeze. Truth be told, as soon as I saw castor oil on the list of ingredients I became a little apprehensive. I've only used one other oil with castor oil in it, and it was very thick and turned into almost like a glue or paste type of texture if I tried applying it to a slightly damp beard. That is absolutely not the case here. I used the 9 Pugilist oils exclusively for about a month, and each time I used it I had the same experience - a great oil that spreads wonderfully through my beard when applied with my hands, and then coats very evenly when hit with my favorite boar bristle brush. It doesn't absorb real fast, which I like, but it doesn't leave a greasy feeling behind either.

My wife was a big fan of MOST of the scents of the Pugilist Brand oils. Absinthe was the only one she didn't like. It has an extremely unique aniseed and fennel scent, which is very much like that of black licorice. Just as with black licorice, some will love it while others will, well, not. Beyond the scents, my wife mentioned more than a few times that my skin felt softer more of the time, not just after I applied some oil. She also says that the hairs in my beard look healthier, and by that she means she notices fewer split ends. So it's a win in the wife's book.

So after using Pugilist Brand for basically a month I can safely say this - I will be a Pugilist customer for a long time to come. Tom has put a lot of time, thought, blood , sweat, and tears (figuratively people, it's not literally in the bottle. Well, at least for my sake I hope it's not) into his Pugilist Brand and it shows. The passion he has for this really comes through in all the products he makes.

So do yourself a big favor and check Pugilist Brand out TODAY!!!! The full line of Pugilist Brand products can be found at www.pugilistbrand.com Please go give them a look, you will definitely not regret it.

As I said earlier, there will be 2 more Pugilist reviews coming up soon. 1 will cover the balms and the moustache wax, and the other will cover the beard wash and the soaps. Until then, let that shit grow and beard on!!!!!!!

New Shaman Beard Oil 1oz Bottles April 10, 2015 11:32

Shaman is a medicine man, witch doctor or druid who practices ancient healing traditions using plants, herbs, magic and a spiritual way of life. Shamanic teachings focus on our connection to nature and all of creation.  We used 6 traditional herbal essential oils to help strengthen your beard at the follicle, treat underlying skin and focus your mind.

Today Pugilist Brand Gentleman's Grooming Products launches Shaman Beard Oil in 1 oz bottles. Specially formulated with essential oils such as Clary Sage & Rosemary, proven to stimulate hair growth at the follicle.

In addition to stimulating the hair follicle, Rosemary promotes hair growth as well as treating oily skin and hair.  Rosemary has shown success when used in Alopecia ( hair loss) studies.   Clary Sage also shows signs of promoting hair growth.

Clove increases circulation and stimulates hair growth at the root, and it's one of nature's most potent antioxidants. Eucalyptus is a natural lice treatment and also helps increases blood circulation at the root. Spicy Cinnamon & Clove and zesty citrus Lemon Balm essential oils are added to the blend to complete this enticing masculine aroma.
